FINALLY!

A date has finally been set for the Jury trial of Charles Darnell and Jaren Ashley Hare - July 11, 2011 at 8:30am. They are both being tried on one count of Manslaughter, one count of Murder in the Third Degree, and one count of Child Neglect. The tragedy of Shaianna Hare's death, which could have easily been avoided, occurred on July 1, 2009. Justice hasn't happened swiftly in this case, but I hope that the jury presiding over the trial will be fair and accurate in their decision.

EDIT ON 7/11/11 - Just wanted to let "Anonymous" know that I responded to your comment...

Dear "Anonymous",
Let me respond to your questions and comment.

First, "y do this", if by "this" you mean bring to light a terrible tragedy that happened due to neglect which has impacted responsible boid keepers like myself, I will give you my main reason. Because of their (the owners of the "killer" python) inability to properly house and take care of their pet, multiple pieces of legislation was and is being brought forward to impact my livelihood and my ability to keep the pets that I enjoy having. This terrible tragedy could have been easily avoided in multiple ways as I have outlined in my previous blog posts. Why punish the many because of the irresponisibility of the few?

Second, "Do u know them?" No, had I known them I would have been more than happy to point out that they should feed their python more than road kill (apparantly a squirrel as reported from Mr. Darnell - not exactly a healthy meal for a boid), and possibly more frequently than a once a month (although a once-a-month feeding might be proper if the python was of the proper weight and fed a proper sized meal for its age). I also would have stressed the importance of proper housing for a boid. A "tank" is for fish, not a python. Putting an escaped python in a laundry bag with a hole in it isn't going to keep it from escaping again. Neglecting a snake should be considered just as bad as neglecting a dog or cat. It is an animal that can do nothing but depend on its owner to properly take care of it.

"only what u hear in the media........" Well, you are right, I have blogged about what has been reported in the media. Unfortunately, that is all that I can go off of as well as my years of experience caring for boids. Most of what has been reported in the media has been according to the investigative reports (directly from the mouths of the accused) as well as from pictures taken at the scene.

"You should be ashamed to judge them!". I am not judging them, merely pointing out problems that hopefully other people will not make with their pets. Do I have an opinion about whether they are guilty considering the evidence as I have read in media reports? Yes, in my opinion they are guilty. But, it's not for me to decide, as only those people sitting on the jury will have all of the evidence presented to them to decide whether they are guilty or not. In the long run, there is only One to judge, and both Mr. Darnell and Ms. Hare will have to live with the consequences due to their neglect of an animal.
